about: Vistatech was created using the VistaPE and Winbuilder projects. The goal of this project was to create a Winternals/ERDcommander like distro, that would be able to do the same functions for Vista as those stated do for XP.
The tools provided will let one hook into the collective registry hive of a target hard drive, edit it, and make repairs caused by virus's and other malware. This will also load the hive to make changes to the system services that start when the computer itself boots. There are too many tools I have included to list but I will cover the important ones to note.
Do keep in mind the focus on this project was to be able to create a bootable distro independent from the Vista OS installed on the system but could, "hook" into that system to make repairs for a compromised OS install.

System Requirements:
I tested this on a couple machines with various results. The first one i tested it on was a 600mhz celeron emachines with 192mb of ram. Which booted fine with the exception of loading networking support upon boot time (which is skip-able anyway)
The minimum requirements for Windows Vista itself should be fine for all tools on this disk.
I used a pentium 4 (single core) 512mb of ram in my testing. It worked just peachy.
*bug report* when the distro boots "sometimes" it crash's out on detecting networking settings. Particularly the nvidia driver set, "nv". If this does the same for you you have the option to, "press any key to skip" of loading networking support.
Grub4DOS:
This is the boot loader chosen to load one of three programs when you put the disk in.
1.) EliteTech Vistatech
2.) Memtest86+
3.) VIVARD
Elitetech Vistatech: (see screenshot above) The main ERD like distro for fixing an OS that no longer gets to a desktop for windows vista
Memtest86+: A port of the original memtest86, now supports more processors and ram types. This program is used to find bad blocks in memory modules.
VIVARD: A powerful and simple program for low-level HDD diagnostics. Supported interfaces: S-ATA (SATA), IDE (E-IDE), SCSI. Big drives (LBA-48) are supported.
- Surface test. Program allows testing disk drive surface.
- Surface test with remap. Scanning drive with replacement of defects from reserve area.
- Erasing sectors or whole drive. Fast easing sectors or whole drive in mode UDMA (will clear all partitions, MBR, and all user data). The program deletes data from a hard disk drive completely, allowing its user to be sure that if the drive is sold or passed on the next owner will not be able to recover any data previously stored there.
- The program allows viewing of SMART-attributes.
- Record of the report on a current hard drive condition.
VIVARD is very simple and easy and will not demand from user special knowledge of the interface or any standards.
Vistatech Program List Description:
There are more programs then listed, but I will cover the important ones:
7zip: Open source Windows utility for manipulating archives. Formats 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2 and TAR are supported fully, other formats can be unpacked.
Antivir Antivirus: Antivirus scanning program (it loads when OS starts but is outdated) You can update this via updates section of the program and it will load into ramdrive, but will not show up as being updated.
Avanced PCI Info: Just as the name implies. Upon opening it will show you vendor name and device names/bus/VID/DID and IRQ of PCI chipsets both onboard and via the PCI slots on your computer.
Auslogics System Information: Auslogics System Information provides comprehensive and easy to understand information about your system configuration.
It will show hardware configuration, video card information, OS details, list of running processes, and other information. This information can be saved as a file and sent to technical support.
Diskpartitioner: (xp 2k)DiskPartitioner is a free program for managing partitions. It uses Microsoft's DISKPART.EXE at the backend to carry out all partition operations and query partition data. Also provides options for formatting, checking, defragmenting and viewing properties of a selected partition.
DreampackPL: This tool gives full access to Windows 2000/XP.
DreamPackPL does not change/overwrite old passwords, therefore EFS encrypted
files will still be readable (only Windows 2000).
Features:

--> loading the Explorer shell at a new desktop and work as 'impersonate user'
with system privileges ('Spirit mode'),

HDDScan: xp/2k Hard drive scanning utility for smart abilities
HWMonitor: hardware monitoring program that reads PC systems main health sensors : voltages, temperatures, fans speed.
Infrarecorder: CD/DVD burning software
IP-Tools: TCP/IP utilities for scanning NetBIOS/NB Scanner/Ports/Ping/Trace/etc etc
Internet Explorer 7: Self explanitory
MbrFix: Perform several Master Boot Record (MBR) tasks, like backing up, restoring, fixing the boot code in the MBR, etc. The utility should not be used for GUID Partition Table (GPT) disks. The utility now, by popular demand, also come in a x64-version running unde x64-editions of Windows and PE.
MBRWizard: a command line tool designed to directly modify the MBR, with the capability to set partitions active for booting, delete or hide partitions, back up and restore copies of the MBR, as well as sort the partition entries.
NTPWEdit: a password editor for Windows NT based systems (like Windows 2000, XP and Vista), it can change or remove passwords for local system accounts. This program can NOT decrypt passwords or change domain and Active Directory passwords.
Partition find and Mount: Partition Find & Mount implements a new concept of deleted or lost partition recovery. It works in the most convenient way possible — by locating and mounting partitions into the system, thus making those lost partitions available to you like any generic disk volume. Partition Find & Mount will also work in case any Boot Record (including the Master Boot Record) is missing, damaged or overwritten.
Sysinternals Process Explorer: Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded
Sysinternals Process Monitor: an advanced monitoring tool for Windows that shows real-time file system, Registry and process/thread activity. It combines the features of two legacy Sysinternals utilities, Filemon and Regmon, and adds an extensive list of enhancements including rich and non-destructive filtering, comprehensive event properties such session IDs and user names, reliable process information, full thread stacks with integrated symbol support for each operation, simultaneous logging to a file, and much more.
Pserv: is a Windows NT/2000/XP CPL to control services & devices
RegistryLoaderPE: Allows you to load local or remote (ie sam system security from c:\) registry hive and allows you to make changes. Works for 2k/xp/2k3/vista.
Sala Password Renew: (2k/xp) # (re)set the passwords of any user which has a valid local account,
# create a new local user with administrator rights
# and set administrator rights to existing user on your NT system.
# Can reset local administrator password on the pc that is in domain, using NULL Administrator password feature.
Simple Service Manager: Just as it sounds. No support for outside the distro itself.
ServicesPE: A service manager that does both. Loads system services local to the distro itself and will load remote hive of c:\
System Information Viewer: a general Windows utility for displaying lots of useful Windows, Network and hardware info - CPU info, PCI info, PCMCIA info, USB info, Machine Info, Hardware Sensors, Networked computers, Operating System Information and more
SIW System Info: an advanced System Information for Windows tool that gathers detailed information about your system properties and settings and displays it in an extremely comprehensible manner.
System Explorer: Detailed informations about Tasks, Processes, Modules, Startups, IE Addons, Uninstallers, Windows, Services, Drivers, Connections and Opened Files
Unknown Device Identifier: Unknown Device Identifier enables you to identify the yellow question mark labeled Unknown Devices in Device Manager. And reports you a detailed summary for the manufacturer name, OEM name, device type, device model and even the exact name of the unknown devices. With the collected information, you might contact your hardware manufacturer for support or search the Internet for the corresponding driver with a simple click. With this utility, you might immediately convert your unidentified unknown devices into identified known devices and find proper driver on the Internet and contact the hardware device manufacturer or vender. Known devices recognized by Microsoft Windows will also be analyzed independent of the operating system.
Universal Extractor: a program do to exactly what it says: extract files from any type of archive, whether it's a simple zip file, an installation program, or even a Windows Installer (.msi) package.
Vista Recovery Environment: The tools stripped str8 from vista ultimate Disk.
WIMMaster: Tool for creating,modifieng,and working with .wim files. Works like ImageX.
WindowsGate: Unlock/Lock functions (enabling/disabling logon password validation)

WinUpdatesList: WinUpdatesList displays the list of all Windows updates (Service Packs and Hotfixes) installed on your local computer. For hotfix updates, this utility also displays the list of files updated with these hotfixes. In addition, it allows you to instantly open the Web link in Microsoft Web site that provides more information about the selected update, uninstall an update, copy the update information to the clipboard, or save it to text/HTML/XML file.
Xchm: xCHM is a cross-platform GUI front-end to chmlib, with borrowed bits from Pabs' chmdeco project.
Originally written for UNIX systems (Linux, *BSD, Solaris), xCHM has been since ported to Mac OS X and Windows.
xCHM can show the content tree if one is available, print pages, change font face and size, remember bookmarks, display a searchable index, and search for words in the current page and the whole book.
